My Wedding Planning
To show that as a bride to be I deal with the same frustrations as you do and understand the financial challenges I decided I
would share my wedding planning.

My Date was set for June 27, 2009 but had to be moved right now I am looking at June 27 2010.
Budget: $2500
Colors: Pink Black and White
Estimated Guests: 60 almost all from out of the area.
Children are very welcome
Ceremony-non religious no church
Reception No Alcohol
Attendants: 3 Bridesmaids 3 Groomsmen 1 ring bearer

The particular challenges we are facing;
2 diabetics, 1 gluten allergy, 2 low cholesterol, low fat, low salt diets.  Almost everyone will be flying in.

So I have done some preliminary planning figured out my budget what I like and what I really do not like but am still dealing
with a couple of issues.  Such as since everyone is coming in for it should I send out announcements to get a better idea of
the actual attendance first?  He barely has any family left so we will not be doing the traditional bride and groom seating
arrangements.  He is Catholic and I am not which negated a church ceremony which means I have to book a site for the
ceremony and the reception.

Reception Ideas

For our centerpieces I am going to do ice cream cups filled with gratitude rocks.  Our two passion his is ice cream mine is
rocks LOL  For our flowers I have not decided but will order from pro flowers and arrange myself to cut back on florist
fees.  Instead of a DJ we will be doing the Ipod song list on auto play each guest will be asked to write down a couple of
there favorite songs.  Also instead of the bouquet and garter toss we will be doing a pinata after having them at several
parties I realized they are just as much fun for the adults as the kids.
We will not be having balloons not only are they not cost effective but they are extremely dangerous for children.
Counter
Let's face it for something that is supposed to be the most joyful day of our lives
planning the event is incredibly stressful.  There are hundreds of tiny details to
attend to, which would be overwhelming without other added stresses; such as
working, finances, and so forth.
So when is it time to say enough is enough and hire a professional wedding planner
or coordinator?
If you do not have time to see to the hundreds of tiny details that will make your event run
smoothly.
If looking at one more floral arrangement gives you hives.
If your having trouble locating vendors and sites to serve your needs.
Ah but what is the cost of a wedding coordinator or planner?
First remember that the cost of the coordinator will come out of your overall budget.
They charge either a flat fee, hourly rate, or a percentage usually 10-15%.
What does a wedding coordinator or planner do?
It is the job of the coordinator or planner to take some of the responsibilities off the bride.
They schedule appointments with vendors, site managers, and hair salons.
Offer idea's on decorations, caterers, photographers, and florists.
Frequently have relationships with vendors and are able to negotiate a deal.
Handle as much as you need them to.
Make sure your wedding day goes off without a hitch on time and on budget.
Things to watch out for:
If the coordinator wants all costs up front.
If the coordinator will not sign a contract.
If you do not mesh with the coordinator.
Make sure the coordinator has reffrences and a portfolio.
You should not be charged for your initial consultation.

Wedding Planning

Planning
your wedding is a time consuming process.   There are a lot of details to attend to
in order to make your big day truly special.  After setting your budget go to a wedding website
such as weddingchannel.com and print out their handy checklist.  The one thing none of the
Wedding Planning Checklist seem to have is the details.  Using broad terms they say book
your site now or reserve your caterer, but not a single statement on what goes into each
catergory so I thought I would cover them here.
The Ceremony and Reception
We all know that booking your ceremony and reception sites is a important first step and necessary
before sending out the invites but here is what you need to know about planning for these all
important areas.

One as soon as you have picked your location start thinking of decorating idea's.  Decide if you are
going to do it yourself or hire someone to do it for you.  A easy way to get a better idea is to draw out
your site location on graph paper using a simple one box=one foot.  This way you can sketch out
table placements and get an idea of key decorating spots.  (see budgeting tips page for ways to help
trim costs)  Once you have your design idea in hand start shopping around for the best deals even if
you have a large wedding budget it is no reason to be wasteful.
Things To Think About For Decorating Your Wedding
Reception Centerpieces
Guest book Table Decoration
Cake Table Decoration (keep minimal your cake is the real centerpiece here)
Place cards- several non traditional place card idea's are- sea shells, pictures in frames, using
favors to dbl as place cards, by table name instead of individual names, handcrafted ones out
of scrapbook paper, rocks
Ceremony-There is no need to decorate every chair or pew!
Keep stage accents to a minimum your friends and family are there to see you!
Potted plants
Fabric canopy
Candles (make sure you have appropriate clearance!)
Large framed pictures of you and your fiance
Reception:
Guest-book (Neat idea signable
plates or photo frames.)
Cake Servers (can borrow from
another relative or friend)
Toasting Flutes (In my opinion nice
but not necessary)
Favors for your guests (more
necessary then custom flutes and
servers in my opinion)
Table Cloths
Napkins
Plates, Silverware, & Cups at least
50 more then your guest list.
Decorations
Things To Purchase For Your Ceremony:
Marraige License
Programs (In my opinion completely
uneccessary! if your wedding is so
long you need a program then
there is a problem your ceremony
should not extend past 40 minutes)
Invites, RSVP cards, Thank You Cards
Save the Date notices
Order Gown & Accessories
